The Beauty of the Written Word!

Surrounded by visuals everyday, we tend to forget about the beauty of the written word. Don’t get me wrong, I still believe a picture can speak a 1000 words but beautifully and cleverly written copy can compliment a picture to strengthen the message, tell a story that you can get lost in and allow your imagination to soar or spark emotion within that just might not happen from imagery alone.

The more I work in this world of Branding I can see one of the most difficult aspects of writing copy when it comes to marketing and branding is wanting to say so much in such a small amount of words. But it is achievable, and when done well it gives amazing results.

Have a look at some examples and see for yourself:

No image needed, the clever copy speaks loudly all by itself.

Simple. To the point. Short, snappy sentences.

Imagery and copy complimenting each other to give clear messaging and spark some thought.

Only 3 lines, approx. 28 words and you have already have a picture of what the Economist are all about and who they are trying to attract.

Copy writing, just like design has to differ depending on the audience it is aimed at, the messages you want to portray or the medium you are using. Your imagery can help communicate your brand’s values but your copy and tone of voice will communicate your brand’s personality. I do admit, I’ve always been a bit of a book worm, I love getting lost in a good story whether it is from reading a novel, seeing an interesting advert in a magazine or even a billboard I pass on the street but, even if your not one of those people it is difficult to ignore the importance of well written copy.
